We all have have opinions and ideas on how the DH scene could be much better if we were in charge, but most of of us do nothing about it, but Mike Marsden is one of the minority after getting in contact with us to let us know about what he is up to Borderline Events at Moelfre. I started doing small uplift weekends for mates a couple of years back at Caersws and found them to be quite popular.... that grew when I found myself needing to fill a few extra spaces so I advertised on DW and found that I had more interest than I could deal with so I decided to start organising weekends at Moelfre and Caersws and present day weekends I now have up to 90 riders and a simple friendly booking service. I organise up to 10 of these per year and have many regulars who come to every one and through this have made many new friends. With most people enjoying these weekends I decided to contact the local pubs and do a deal where I could take all the overnighters down for grub on the Saturday night and have had up to 50 riders down the pub on a Saturday night which is always a good laugh and often messy. A good few beers and a chance to escape the weather is always appreciated....... With that it grew to what was involved in building my own track – I contacted Jack at Moelfre and asked if I was allowed to build a track there – I did an initial scouting day with a few regulars from my uplift as well as Si Paton and went about marking a track out. In February I organised a dig weekend and had 35 diggers along. Matt Simmonds came along and offered some support as well as a hand digging and we dug ¾ of a trail..... on the Sunday Jack put on a free uplift for all those that were working on the Saturday. I had no idea what was involved and must thank Mr Simon Paton of Descent Gear, Mr Roger Wilbraham of British Cycling and of course my main sponsor Mike Sanderson of Diamonback. In March time I was down at Aston hill and spoke to Mike Sanderson of Diamondback who was really enthusiastic about my event and with the unusual format of running two practice courses on the Saturday and only on the Sunday finding out which track they would race the event was born. 'Decision Downhill presented by Borderline Events' I now find myself only two weeks away from my first event. I'm certainly nervous and my sole aim is to see happy riders at the end of a good, relaxed weekend in the Welsh hills.....If successful there's definitely more to come... Moelfre Hall - 18/19 October 2008 PLACES STILL AVAILABLE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES 7TH OCTOBER You can of course check out my website at www.borderline-events.co.uk
